On November 27, Clarivate Analytics officially announced the 2018 Global Highly Cited Researchers List. More than 6,000 elite researchers worldwide were included. Prof.Di Chen and Prof.Dongsheng Geng from the School of Mathematics and Physics from our university were listed as highly cited cross-field researchers. Shaoqing Zhao, Lecturer at the School of Chemistry and Biological Engineering, was listed as a highly cited researcher in the field of materials science.
Over 4,000 highly cited researchers that specialize in one of the 21 fields of natural and social sciences (such as materials, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering) were included in the list. Moreover, the 2018 list also added a list of approximately 2,000 highly cited researchers that published high-impact papers and demonstrated outstanding performance in more than one field.
The list of researchers was compiled by the experts of Clarivate Analytics based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database. The ESI database is a component of InCites, an internationally authoritative analysis platform on research performance. In addition, indicators from the academic research platform, Web of Science, such as the number of published journal articles, citations, and scientific development trends, were also considered. The list shows how much a researcher’s achievements in one or more fields are recognized by their peers, as well as the researcher’s global influence.
Prof. Dongsheng Geng, a doctoral advisor at USTB, received his Doctor of Science from the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2007. From June 2007 to July 2015, he conducted scientific research at Shinshu University in Japan, the University of Western Ontario in Canada, and the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore. He joined our university in 2016. His research directions include the preparation, characterization, and structure-activity relationship of new functional materials related to energy conversion. He published one English monograph and more than 70 papers in SCI journals (SCI papers). Three of such papers where he was the first author are included in the ESI highly cited paper list and have been cited by other SCI papers more than 5,300 times.
