Recently, after fierce competition and strict process screening, Prof. Xiaogang Li from the School of New Materials Technology of our school won the N. International W. R. Whitney Award in 2019. Founded in 1947, the American Society of Corrosion Engineers is the world's largest academic organization for corrosion and protection of materials. The W. R. Whitney Award is the highest academic award for scholars who have made significant contributions to corrosion science theory and corrosion resistant materials, and only one person is awarded annually worldwide.
The awarding speech to Prof.Xiaogang Li has been published on the NACE International website: Prof.Xiaogang Li has made outstanding contributions to corrosion science and engineering, especially his long-term research on the basic theory of corrosion of steel materials and metallurgical control of corrosion resistant steel. Important achievements, his work systematically clarified the influence of alloy composition, microstructure and metallurgical process parameters on the origin and evolution of steel environmental corrosion. To facilitate the understanding of complex corrosion processes and the design of advanced corrosion resistant materials, he has also developed corrosion big data methods including full life cycle exposure experiments, laboratory accelerated experiments, high throughput corrosion and environmental monitoring, and corrosion modeling and simulation.
It is reported that Prof.Xiaogang Li is a council member of the International Corrosion Council. According to the news, in October 2018, Prof. Xiaogang Li was invited to serve as the editorial board member of the "Elrosion Science" series of the British Elsevier Publishing Group. The journal is the top journal of the international metallurgical profession, with an impact factor of 5.24. A total of five top experts from around the world were hired as editorial advisors to grasp the direction of their publications. Prof.Xiaogang Li is the only Chinese professor.
