2021 Academic Advisory Meeting was held successfully

On September 23, the 2021 academic advisory meeting of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering was held. Ms. Ruiping Gao, Deputy Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Mr. Shanting Li, Director of the Research Department of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Prof. Renshu Yang, President of the USTB, Vice Presidents Zhaoping Lu, Weidong Zhang and Luning Wang, as well as distinguished experts from US, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, and China, participated in the online and on-site activities of the meeting.

President Renshu Yang delivered a speech on behalf of the university, thanking the support and assistance from the governmental agencies and the co-constructing institutes of the Center, and said that the USTB would actively study the new mechanism to support the high-quality construction of the Center, and make every effort to meet the requirements for the cycle evaluation and the construction in the new term.

 Ms. Ruiping Gao expressed that this year was the first year of the 14th Five Year Plan of China, which is facing with new challenges and opportunities in a new journey. Materials genome engineering is an emerging approach in materials research and is at the forefront of materials science and engineering nowadays. She hoped that the Center’s work could be problem-oriented and demand-driven and give full attention to interdisciplinary research and industrial collaborative innovation.

On behalf of the Center, Prof. Luning Wang reported the overview of the Center’s development in the year of 2020~2021, as well as the main progresses in research team, research innovation, platform construction, facility construction, international collaboration, education reformation, etc., and introduced the work plans for the next term. The members of the Academic Advisory Committee were invited to give their opinions on the topics including the future development of key technologies of materials genome engineering, challenges of talent training for the new scientific and technological revolution, how to carry out international collaborative research more effectively during and after COVID-19, and the frontiers and hot spots of materials R&D.

The team leaders and some key members of the Center attended the meeting.
